I have upgraded two 98 machines to Windows XP. I know, I know, Never
Upgrade, just re-install..... OK, that said....

Issues:
1. Computers members of NT 4.0 Domain. Two days out of the chute, they
stopped playing in the domain, could not connect to server, could not
authenticate, domain membership error.... Solution: Renamed / re-added
computers to the domain. Now all is fine... Is this a known problem??? Am
I dreaming?

2. Printers acting strange, sometimes waiting for manual feed, sometimes
prints only half page, etc. etc. Solution: re-installed the printers, Now
all is fine... Is this a known problem??? Am I dreaming?

3. I want to create standard desktop with customizability... i.e. default
desktop with default ikons, user can then change wallpaper etc.. after the
fact. a.) How do I do this, and b.) for those users that have already
logged in once, can I revert / convert their now existing profile back to
the default standard profile.....?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Hi John-
I don't know about issues 1 and 2 that you raise. Sorry that the upgrade was so troublesome.

As for 3, you can accomplish this using System Policies. You create a Policy at the server and then save it to the netlogon directory of the Domain Controller. The Policy wil be applied to the domain users on next log-on.

Michael,

Actually it wasn't so bad... I just wondered if anyone else encountered this. We are actually upgrading the server to SBS 2000 which should make things go a lot smoother.

Thanks for your reply...
