The computer is running Windows XP SP1. I am trying to
install software but it is not allowing me to get through
the full install..saying in Event Viewer that windows
file protection will not allow this software installation
to update the system files. There are four files it is
trying to update. This software has been loaded on 2000
Pro machines with no problem. Is this a setting that can
be disabled?

Kara-

Set the following registry key value to 2

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SFCDisable

This will disable WFP for the next system restart only, which should allow
you to install the software.

Edit the registry as noted, reboot and install.

Good Luck
