View Full Version : Desktop Folder Moved - Help Appreciated!

Somehow my Desktop folder under my user name in Windows XP got moved under
my Favorites folder. All my desktop items now show up in IE's Favorites. I
have tried moving it back to it's regular position, but it gives me a
message stating this folder is in use and it only copies the files and
shortcuts that aren't critical to the PC working (such as My Computer,
Recycle Bin, etc.).
I have no idea how the folder got moved in the first place and consequently
no idea how to move it back to its rightful place. Any help would be
wonderful. MS' support takes so long these days!

Hi,
Log off, log on as administrator. Open Windows Explorer and move the desktop
folder back to where it is supposed to be for your user profile.
From:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Favorites\desktop
To:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\desktop

Thanks. That worked. Apparently I had the Favorites folder as Read Only, so
it wouldn't let me change anything.
