xp pro home networking no domain problem !!!!!

I have three new computers freshly loaded with windows xp
pro office and all service packs I cant seem to log on to
shared directorys or printer gives me a denied error to
resource

I loaded thge .net update could this have anything to do
with it I have never had this problem before normally I
network xp pro without a domain in two minutes what have
I done wrong what am I missing

PLEASE HELP !!!!!
