Doug Knox , Maureen and all the others that responded to
my problem - Thank You !!
I wanted to thank you for the help with the problem I
had - =
lost the index in xp help @ support . I followed all
your tips and =
learned a lot but , unfortunately , that did,t get the
job done .
I followed all advise given from all sources that I was
able to find - =
no luck . I finally gave in and reinstalled windows
because I was sure =
that would repair the problem --- WRONG . That's when I
used all the =
MAGIC WORDS that I learned working in a steel mill 30
yrs. Well that =
didn't work either, so I gave up and just went to windows
update and =
replaced all the patches - quick fixes etc. that were
lost when I did =
the reinstall. Well I'm sure you have this figured out
by now - yep - =
that did it !!!! Don't know how or why but sure would
like to here from =
anyone that might have an idea . Thanks , Jeff

No idea, Jeff. Hopefully someone will have some insight to this and will
share their theory. I just wanted to say that a repair install or reinstall
has been the only "tip in the scales" for users I've helped with this
problem. The other fixes are worth trying "just in case" but more ofen than
not, your approach is what it all comes down to in the end. Glad to hear
that you have this sorted and thanks for letting folks know how you fixed
it.

Glad to hear you got it sorted out, as well, Jeff. And wish there was more
info on what fixed it.
