Befor posting my original question regarding 64vs32 bit
patch,I had spoken with a friend who has much the same
type of computer as I. She told me she had downloaded the
64 bit patch. Will this harm/protect her computer from
this worm? Would it be advisable for her to delete the 64
bit patch and use the 32 bit?

the 64bit patch will not install on a 32bit system.

You have 32bit most likely

If you have XP Home it is for sure 32bit.

If you have XP Pro..Right click on My Computer and select Properties. If
you see 64-bit in there anywhere u have 64 it it does not say 64 then u have
32.

The 64 bit patch may not even run, and I would certainly expect that it
wouldn't install if it did run. But yes, delete it and download the
correct version.
