folder on my desktop won't go away

I have a folder that I created on the desktop to hold
some music files for a little while. I'm done with it, so
I drug the icon to the recycle bin and deleted it. But
now the folder keeps coming back on its own, but without
its previous contents. I tried deleting it again, making
sure it wasn't a read-only folder, but almost instantly
it returns. I tried renaming it, but after I've done it
another folder pops up with the original name. I'm at
wit's end!

Try logging off & then back in & try it?
Try rebooting & then try it?
Try it from safe mode?

Kelly has some suggestions for deleting a stubborn file in her A-Z
section under "delete - can't delete files or folders".
