game installation troubles

I am having trouble installing Madden 2004. The first
disk installs correctly but when prompted to insert disk
two, the dvd-rom spins up, but the installation progress
comes to a halt. The PC doesn't hang, but I don't get
any response from the dvd-rom drive (data being
installed). Does anyone have any suggestions?

Additionally, many months ago, I tried to install Sim
City 4 and got the same problem. I don't think it's the
software, rather some setting or config problem with my
PC/Windows XP Home. I have the factory default setting
set for auto run.

Sounds like you might have a flaky DVD, have you tried to uninstall and
reinstall the device just to see if that helps at all? Maybe there is an
updated driver for it?
