I have an OEM copy of XP on CD. I have a home network of
three computers. I would like to install XP on a second
computer. Can I install the OEM or do I have to buy a
second copy of XP.

You can only install Windows XP on one computer using
the same Product Key, otherwise Product Activation will
fail. Therefore, you need to purchase another copy of
Windows XP for installation on another computer.

For more information, open XP's "Help and Support"
and type in: EULA , and hit enter.

gary,

Installing a Microsoft OS on a second computer has always required the
purchase of a second license, the policy just wasn't enforced until the
release of XP.

It's true that you will need a new license to install
Windows XP on another computer. An easy and slightly
less expensive way to do this is described on the
shop.microsoft.com web site. Go to any page offering
Windows XP, such as
http://shop.microsoft.com/Referral/productInfo.asp?
siteID=11052 and click the link near the bottom of the
right column: "here's how to qualify for and order" your
new product key. It's a fairly easy process and you can
get your new product key online.

Hope this helps.

Craig,

The OP won't qualify for an additional license from MS if, as stated, the
current OS is an OEM version.
