xp home upgrade hung in middle

I'm hung at 40 minutes remaining in an xp home upgrade
and would like to back out or commit suicide. I have
restarted several times and still hang mid process. Is
there any super keystrokes to beg the update to unscrew
my computer?

My best advice is just let it run. Mine (XP Pro) sat for about an hour and
ten minutes, and all of a sudden it finally completed the installation.

my mouse is hung and the little "I'm processing" dots at
the bottom right stop moving.

It's been about 8 months since I installed XP Pro. IIRC, it seemed like the
computer froze, but the installation finally finished.
