Software Update Problem

My platform is Windows XP Home edition. When I try to go
to the Windows Update page I get the following
message: "Software Update Incomplete, this Windows Update
software did not update successfully." I followed the
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 319585 and got to the
part that says "Delete Files from Windows Update
folder." I could go no further, especially when it ask
to "Remove the Windows Update ActiveX Controls" PLEASE
HELP ME.
