View Full Version : now my virus program is acting funny

cleaned the worm, finally got SP1 and the security patch.

now, when i boot up, i get the message to the effect that
Tmntsrv.dll encountered an error and will be shutting
down. sorry for the inconvenience."

and then my real time scan on my PC-cillin doens't work
and i can't turn it on. In researching, i discovered
that tmntsrv.dll is associated with real time scan on PC-
cillin.

and on top of that, when i logged on to microsoft.com my
puter just started grinding. so i checked my task
manager and there were two tasks sucking up all my usage:

PNTTOMON.exe and PNTMAIN.exe

looked those up and they are also associated with PC-
cillin. so i stopped them from running, puter went back
to normal CPU usage. but i would assume stopping these
tasks just stopped my virus protection.

BUT whenever i go to a new webpage now, a little pc-
cillin thing pops (like a graphic ad) up telling me that
it is protecting me. it never used to pop up when i
surfed to a new page.

do you think i should uninstall pc-cillin and get a whole
new virus program? could the worm have done something
to it?

I do have my firewalls up, could this be causing some
kind of conflict with my pc-cillin?

Try re-installing PC-Cillin and if it still acts up, get a new AV.

You could try AVG, its free. www.grisoft.com Nothing could be worse than
thinking you are protected when your AV isnt working properly. The PC-Cillin
should be on one of your discs, if not I would use AVG free. Also if you
wanted to purchase, get Norton.
