Please, someone, I really need some HELP!

When I try to access user accounts in my contol panel, I
get a message that says "wrong number of arguments or
invalid property assignment".

When I right-click on My Computer, go to Manage, and then
to Local Users & Groups, Local Users & Groups is X-ed
out, and when I click on the x-ed out Users & Groups, it
says 'unable to access computer: the error was bad syntax'

What the heck has happened? How do I fix this? Can I fix
this?

Thank you!
Gary

my computer: IBM ThinkPad R32
my OS: XP Professional

I'm not sure I know what those are... if can you direct
me to them, I'll take a look and get back to you.

Thanks. Found it.... but, as much as I hate to admit it,
most of what I've seen there is way over my head. Can you
give me some advice as to what to look for, etc.?

ok, now what types of things do you think I should be
looking for? There are a bunch of odd-looking error
messages, going back quite a way in time....

Hard to say - look at your system log to see what looks relevant, and post
back here....
