I'm thinking of installing Mcafee virusscan(ver 6.0)on my
computer.while reading the installation instructions,I
see a section dealing with Mcafee firewall
installation/configuration.since I'm already protected by
my win xp firewall,is it necessary for me to add another
firewall and if so,do I disable win xp firewall? I had a
different version of mcafee virusscan that I tried using
with win98 and it gave me so much grief that I ended up
uninstalling it and never used it(or needed it for that
matter)again.in light of this new virus going around,I'm
not sure if there is such a thing as enough
protection.any help or ideas would be appreciated.thanks.

My suggestion would be to turn off the XP firewall and use the McAfee
one, as it offers greater protection to your computer.

I understand, from reading the usergroups, that some people have managed
to have two firewalls running simultaneously, but that more people have
had problems when trying to do that.

I'm sure that you'll get other opinions on this subject, as people seem
to be rather virulent about which anti-virus and firewall programs are
"best."

My suggestion would to turn off the XP firewall, uninstall McAfee and =
install AVG - www.grisoft.com

Agreed. I dislike McAfee intensely. However, I don't really like the XP
firewall much, I'd go for www.sygate.com for a freebie or buy BlackIce.

I'm running XP's firewall and the free version of Zone Alert without any
conflict so far. Interestingly, when I went online this morning, Zone Alert
notified me that I was getting hit on Port 135 repeatedly..... nothing made
it through.
