View Full Version : Jumping Cursor

My screen cursor if left untouched (no input from the
mouse or keyboard) will frequently jump to the upper
right corner of the screen. At times if it jumps to
the "close window" icon, the computer will initiate a
request to "close the window".

it seems like you may have a trojan horse on your computer. scan for virus.

Check your mouse settings in Control Panel. If your mouse software installs
a second separate control panel (instead of adding to the existing one),
check that too. Look for settings that control what the cursor should do
during idle times. Check settings for what it should do when it reaches the
edge of the window - stop or travel over to other side of window. Some
folks have found their mice to be so sensitive to vibrations that they turn
them over when they are going to walk away from the desk for a bit.

Would it not be more likely that it is a trojan frog?

Are you sure that no mouse utility has been installed with that
feature, or anything close? I'm sure I've encountered utilities
intended to get the cursor out of the line of vision by putting it
into an out-of-the-way area of the screen. Possibly something has
combined with the "smart move" option.
I agree with Sharon that the mouse can be sensitive to small
vibrations - when I put my computer on standby, I put the mouse on a
small piece of foam and use the keyboard to initiate the command.
Otherwise I often can't leave the room without the computer starting
up again.
