I am using Windows XP Home. Recently, I find that when I
try to open folders from a toolbar or shortcut, Explorer
opens displaying a Search results screen with no results,
rather than opening to show the folder contents. In fact
the only way I can navigate to files is by opening
Windows Explorer, and even then, I can only click and
open folders in the left hand panel - when I click on
folders shown in the right hand panel they also open as
blank Search results.

I'm at my wit's end to find what's causing it. Nothing
in the Microsoft Windows Help or Knowledge Database seems
relevant and there's no obvious Registry key to edit.
Any ideas?

This is most likley a problem caused by a virus.

If you have a virus scanner on your computer, run a full scan after updating
the definitions.
If you dont have a virus scanner, try searching google for the freebie
scanner called AVG. It works well and uses little resources.
