unable to restore system

i really hope someone can help me
i have windows xp pro installed on my system it is only 2
weeks old
i have been installing all the updates and a couple of days
ago i noticed
internet explorer playing up it will not work with
javascript
i also noticed that my search function within windows is
not there if i
click on it i get a blank window
so i tried to use system restore and when i open that i get
a blank window
as well
what can i do?
