I broght some disk from Portugal, they were made and
saved in windows98 using word. I have a new computer with
windows xp. Some of my files I can not open. The few that
I can open are not working well. Ex. After I open and I
make any change, I can not save it. Something always pops
up saying that there is an error contact microsoft.
After I open some file I try to copy and paste them
together and after the computer wont let me save.
Is word the same as word perfect? The disk I was using in
Portugal were word & now my new computer has word perfect.
If I send a file made in word perfect, and send it by
Email to a computer with windows 98 and word. Are they
able to open the file?
Thanks, Solange.

Word and WordPerfect are both word processors but the files these programs
create are not always interchangeable.

MS Word has additional WordPerfect convertors that one can choose to
install. These allow the user to open WordPerfect documents in Word.
Perhaps WordPerfect has something similar?

Also, when copying files from CD to your hard drive - check the Properties
of the files. You'll often find that the Read Only box is checked. Uncheck
the box if you are going to make changes to the file.
