View Full Version : Port 251 Open

A while back I posted a note regarding RasMan leaving TCP port 251 open for
listening. I was wrong! It is not RasMan but TapiSrv that is opening up port
251. They are both part of the same svchost group, but TapiSrv depends on
RasMan. Both are set to Manual, but Telephony for some reason always starts
with every machine start. I will try removing the modem card which I do not use
(I use an external modem).

Any light that can be shed on this potential Security risk would be much
appreciated.

Dunno, but get a firewall or enable the XP one, even for a dialup
connection.

Hello,

the listening port 251 disappeared here when I removed
"Microsoft Windows (TM) Remote Service Provider" from
control panel=>telephone and modem options=>3rd menu.
