I just got a new computer with windows xp home edition on
it and my microphone will not work any suggestions Thanks

You really didn't tell us what you want to do with the microphone. Based on
your subject (speech), I'll try to answer. Windows XP includes the
underlying support for speech-to-text technology but it does not include
the software for it. You'll need to install speech software (Dragon for
example) or programs that include speech-to-text such as the MS Office XP
applications.

Also... By default the microphone is muted in Volume Controls. Open Volume
Controls. Click on Options> Properties. Check the box next to Microphone to
add it to Volume Controls. Then uncheck the box next to Mute.

Whenever you record with the microphone, use Options> Properties. Move the
radio button from Playback to Record and select Microphone.
