Please can someone tell me the best way to capture a
current view of the display screen?
Example I get an error message and I want to take a
snapshot of this and paste it to the clip board to
possibly print out later or email to a tech.

Thanks Doug

download a screen-capture utility and keep it in memory at all times,
such as "Grabber2k".
Find it here: http://download.com.com/3000-2192-6659115.html?legacy=cnet

www.analogx.com has a nice screen capture program that
allows you to save the screen shots to any folder, its is
free, and can sit in the quick launch tray (a little camera)
and you can load it with one mouse click and then do it from
the system tray.

Greetings --

Pressing the <PrtScn> key copies the entire display to the
clipboard. Pressing <ALT>+<PrtScn> copies only the active Window to
the clipboard. To view the screen capture, open a graphics program,
such as MS Paint, and press <CTRL>+V. This will paste the contents of
the clipboard (your screenshot) into the open file, and allow you to
view it or save it as a file for later use.

Grabber2k is also free, sits in my Notification Area at all times, can
be loaded with Windows, will capture any area of the screen, from a
defined area to a window or whole screen with just one keypress, and
automatically save a file which can be adjusted for size in the folder I
desire which can be transferred or printed any time I desire. Not only
will it save a sizeable file, it will save the file either as a BMP or a
JPG.

PLUS Grabber2k contains no advertising or piggy-back-ware.

I personally like a freeware program called Screen Hunter 4.0 free which can
be downloaded from www.wisdom-soft.com

It will allow you to capture the entire display, the current window, or an
area of the screen. Saves to a auto- file or print out.
