firewall

I have Windows Xp and I tryed to enable the firewall with
the instructions on the microsoft web site, but when I got
to the advanced tab in my internet connection properties it
says "Windows cannot display the properties of this
connection. The Windows Mangement Instrumentation
information might be corrupted. To correct this, useSystem
Restore to restore Windows to an earlier time." Is there
any other way I can fix this with out restoring my
computer? or is there a firewall I could download that
would work? Please Help!
