I'm not sure where to post this so here goes: I'm not sure if I can do this
or not. I currently have a copy of Windows XP
Home Edition on my main computer. I want to uninstall it and install it on
a new computer I am building and purchase a new copy of Windows XP
Professional to install on the main computer. What problems am I likely to
encounter with Microsoft in doing this. Is there a phone number I can call
for answers? Thanks, Lee

Hi Lee,
Nothing wrong with what you are doing provided the WinXP Home version is a
retail one and not OEM. At worst, you may need to phone in activation after
removing it from the old machine and placing it on the new one.

Greetings --
Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
