I'm trying to us Windows XP at home. I have tried to
download the XP patch that says it must be added before
any other patches. It says it takes 2.5 hours but that's
just "getting" the program. It takes several more hours
to "upgrade" the system - on-line. I am now 3% (yes,
three)upgrades with 2 hours or more to go. The "re-try"
message (when I get cut off) says to go to "Windows XP
Service Package l" and then to "Problems Downloading the
Service Pack". I cannot find such a thing on any
list I look at about the XP patches or downloads.

I cannot get "hotmail" to load. Lucky I have "yahoo". I
need help in getting the critical patch loaded. Can MS
send a disk with the patch ? ? ?

Bruce;
Do not use Express Installation.
You can order Service Pack 1a CD from:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/ordercd.asp
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windowsxp/servicepacks/sp1.asp
Or:
Download the Network Installation from here: (be sure to select the
correct language)
Also select "Windows XP Professional and Home Edition" Do NOT select
64 bit.

DSL takes about 20 minutes, if you do not have high speed access, get
a friend to D/L SP1a for you.
Then burn it to a CD and keep for the future.

Am in the process of finishing the marathon-like download
of the Service Patch1. Found a reply to a message from
MVP, with similiar problems(installing for 2 hr and not
finished yet!) WinUpdate site said update would take 6
min, wondering if I'm wasting my time with this mess. As
I'm typing this, dialog box says its finished. For future
reference, should I go ahead and order a CD rather than
go thru this again. Took 3 tries to get patch installed.

Patti;
Either order the CD or download the network Installation from a
location that has high speed internet access and burn to CD.
This is faster and cheaper than getting the CD in most cases.
