Recently, after installing extra ECC memory, I have had
occasional blinks on the desktop, accompanied by a blank
desktop (no icons, etc) and within ten seconds everything
re-appears with several background tasks (on the taskbar)
shut down. In the Event Viewer of Administrator Tools I
check to see what took place and in Applications an
Information indicated that Winlogon Shell stopped
unexpectabtly and then restarted.
The ID number is 1002 and Microsoft's explanation is "This
event record indicates that the user has been assigned a
mandatory profile. The user can change environment
settings during a logon session; however, these changes
are not saved in the profile at the end of the session."
This occurs quite frequently now (twice to three times
daily) and several tasks I utilize either stops, shuts
down or (in some cases) continues to work in the
background with no way of shutting them down without
logging off and re-logging back on. I cannot find a way to
stop this problem from re-occurring.
I believe I need to change the environment settings and
somehow have the changes saved after each session. Any
help would be appreciated.
Running Windows XP Professional; Abit KD7-Raid
motherboard, AMD Athlon XP 3000+ with 2 Gb of ECC RAM; 4
Maxtor 80 Gb HDDs 7200 RPM; ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 9700;
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum
NOTE: Under Computer Management-->Local Users and Groups--
>Users-->and my profile, I have no login scripting under
the profile tab.
