desktop help

I would like to run the normal xp start menu but when I customize it to run
the desktop the all the icons disappear from the desktop except the recycle
bin. If I change it to classic old style the all reappear but the start
menu is the boring old windows 98 - me start menu. any help on getting the
xp start menu up but with all the icons on the desktop.

The desktop using the new XP look can have all the familiar icons on it
too. You have to add them by using: Display> Desktop> Customize Desktop.
Then start checking boxes for the icons you would like to see displayed.
