Connie;
There is not a specific laptop newsgroup.
Depending on the specific issue, this may be the correct group.
You cannot download Windows XP, you need to buy it.

For you password issue:
Try leaving the password blank.
The password is Case Sensitive.
Check Caps Lock and try various of Capital combinations.

If you do not have a Password Recovery Disk, it is to late to make it.
Or
Log in to any account that has Administrator access.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select the user and change the password.
Reboot to Safe Mode, select Administrator, leave password blank.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select the user and change the password.
If you are using Windows XP Pro and have encrypted data, you may
permanently lose access to the encrypted data.
Here is another option:

Another option is to install Windows XP on another partition and take
Ownership of your data.
You could also perform another installation on the same partition,
although this is not a permanent fix and it is recommended to perform
a Clean Installation after retrieving your data.
After this is resolved, take precautions to not lose the password.

Also in the future, a little better punctuation with appropriate caps
will make your post much easier to read.

The few differences with a laptop are handled in the
hardware groups. Otherwise, a laptop is just a PC.
After loosing control of a machine THE thing to do is
to rebuild from format on up.
If you do not have a CD with a licence key then you
will need to buy one. If they placed a BIOS password
on the system (not likely as they would have had to be
at the keyboard for that) you can remove the battery for
a while. Otherwise, there are only so many motherboards
used, so getting into the BIOS is a matter of trying the
usual keys during bootup.
