my windwows xp home edition failed to load, the windows xp
loading display appears on the screen for a while then a
blue screen appeared, the error was can't load
system32/config/software.
i tried to repair the windows using my dell windows xp
system recovery cd, and the 'the password is not valid'
error occured. i understand it's an error of the repair
console, but as my windows failed to load up i can't
download and install the service pack to fix the error.
Can anyone teach me how to fix this problem?? I can't
afford to lose all my files and folders i stored in my
computer.

So do you not know your password? If not, shame on you for using one you
can't remember. Be sure and change it to one that you will ALWAYS remember.
You can try tapping your F8 key almost twice a second, immediatly after the
blue Dell screen disappears at boot up. There you should be able to select
Safe Mode to see if it will let you in that way.

by default there's no password for the administrator
account, so given that i never assign a password to the
admin. acc., so by just press the enter key should by pass
the password request. i've tried entering my windows using
safe mode, but the same error occurred
