i have an older system...a p2 300mhz. i have 384mhz of ram
and i am running win2000 pro. i was thinking of upgrading
to xp...i know the requirements and was wondering if it
would be a good idea considering the speed of the
processor/ or would it just lag, and be a waste of
time .....the computer is a BRAVADA MS 6300....originally
designed for win95, 98, NT4, and runs pretty good with
win2000.....please reply soon....

thanks~

Hi Patrick,

I have Windows XP Pro running on a PII 300 with 128MB RAM and with most of
the visual features such as transparency and the animations turned off, it
actually runs quicker on that computer than Windows 2000 did. Your mileage
may vary, but with 384MB of RAM, you really should have no problem with
speed.

Compatibility is another issue, however. Make sure your devices are on the
Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) which is now part of the Windows Catalog,
at the link below. Also have a backup of your important files ready in case
you need to format and reinstall and older operating system.
