Using Xp and ie6 and just recently I've had to re enter my user name and
password details every time I start up, despite checking the 'remember name
and
password' box. I'm on broadband and I usually connect automatically on boot
up but its telling me I've got an invalid password and I have to go into
Internet options, re enter my dial up info and then its ok. Its getting
really annoying now so can anyone help please.

Steve,
This fix works for OE, Outlook and other applications that use the Protected
Storage System Provider to store passwords. I don't have any type of
password requirement for my broadband connection, but since you do, I'd bet
its stored there.
Once you've adjusted the permissions in the Protected Storage System
Provider branch of the Registry, click on the Protected Storage System
Provider sub-key and select Export. This creates a backup that can be
re-imported by double clicking on the REG file that was created.
NOTE: You will need to re-enter all your passwords, so make sure you know
what they are.

The above also applies to Internet Explorer and other applications that use
the Protected Storage System Provider registry key to store passwords.
