hacked and stolen

A few months ago i signed up for a nwesletter in a site i
can't remember.Right after pop-up windows started to apper
and the problem wasn't solved with pop-up stoppers. But
surfing was again possible and i made the mistake to
forget the subject. A few weeks later my credit card was
charged for 20$, payment to "American Life" from whom i
never had any kind of commercial transaction.I immmediatly
installed anti spyware software and the problem was fixed
(so i thought).Today a few months later, i was charged
again.

Just out of curiosity when you had the American Life incident why didn't you
contact your credit card company and have them close that account and give
you a new one? Because they didn't necessarily have to get your credit
card number off your computer. In my case a third party vender to a company
I bought from that did the credit card validations was hacked causing
thousands of MasterCard number to be stolen. But my credit card company was
notified of the hack, canceled my card and account number and issued a new
one. If it is your second time with a different number I'd look at a
Trojan, keylogger. I'd also make sure I was running good virus scanner like
Norton or Mcafee and a firewall. I'd also look at which sites may have poor
security to let a hacker gain my credit card number. A mom and pop website
to buy cheap hardware and software is probably not a good idea since they
won't have the knowledge or budget to try and protect your information.

Call your credit card company, tell them what happened, have them cancel
your old account and issue you a new card.
