In my 'C'properties box the "Compress Drive To save Disk
space" box is un-ticked, but when I run Disk clean up Win
XP Pro still compress's old file's. How can I turn File
compression off. I have a large 80gb drive and don't want
file compression as it slows things down and plays havoc
with my drive image software for backup.
Any help appreciated
Thanks

Untick it in disk cleanup. In the C drive properties this sets the =
default - ie files will be uncompressed unless specifically compressed. =
EG dllcache is compressed so files in it inherit their compression from =
the folders properties. EG Windows directory inherits a default of not =
compressing, system32 the same, but as dllcache has compression =
specified , files here will default to compress. You can of course =
specify any file compressed or uncompressed no matter what the defaults. =
So clearing compression in C drives properties merely sets the default.
