I downloaded the Windows XP update last week and now
Windows will not start on my computer. It stops at a
screen saying Windows will not start and then gives me 5
options, starting in normal mode, safe mode, safe mode
with networking, etc. Regardless of which I choose, I end
up at the same screen telling me that Windows will not
start. I do not have an XP disk as Windows was loaded on
my computer when I bought it. Sony recommended that I use
the system recovery disks but that will wipe out all my
data.

Any Suggestions? would buying windows xp so I had a disk
help? I really don't want to lose all my data, pictures,
music, etc.

This may help: "Resources for Troubleshooting Startup Problems in
Windows XP" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308041).
