View Full Version : No Search Function

Hi,
Has anyone had this problem. I'm using Windows XP, I can
use the search file function (start-search-files or
folders). I have the little dog that sits at bottom left
corner but not able to type anything in. It use to have a
voice balloon to type in the search word but I don't have
that anymore. I have tried to re-install Windows XP but
same thing happens. Could it be a virus? Thanks.

Check Doug Knox's page here for a possible fix
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_search_probs.htm
But unless you really like the little dog (and who wouldn't?) you might wish
to switch to the Classic Search used by Windows 2000. This requires
downloading Tweakui
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp . Once
installed it is located in Start->Programs->Powertoys->Tweakui.
See the example here on where to locate and change the setting in order to
use a traditional search function in XP

Harry Harry Harry. You can't honestly believe that Tweak
UI is a good or useful program. Any changes it makes you
can make yourself without the unecessary wasted space of
the Tweak UI program. If you want to go without the little
doggy and other useless stuff just click
start\search\change search behaviour and click away to
your hearts content. The same thing goes for other changes
that tweak ui makes. They are all basic and easy stuff.
Including the registry changes. Good luck.

Joe was it a particular fix on Doug's site or Tweakui?
