Hello,
I imported a HDD from an old computer to a new computer.
The imported HDD had the entire:
"C:\Documents and Settings\Alyssa" private.
Now when I try to view this imported HDD's private folder
on the new computer:
"D:\Documents and Settings\Alyssa"
I get error "access denied".
I'm using same user name and password for this new
computer that I was using on the old computer.
How can I view this private folder from an imported hard
drive is my question.
Thank you
Alyssa

Try taking ownership of the folder.

Yep, that's what I'm trying to do and don't know how.

Right click on the folder, select Security, Advanced, Owner.

I right click on folder and select properties, there is
no "security". I see an "advance" button under "general"
tab. No "owner". I tried this on both the imported
drive and the other drive.
Perhaps you didn't specify correctly?
thanks for helping me

Alyssa;
Take Ownership:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421
You must be partitioned NTSF and not FAT32.
If Windows XP Home, you need to go to Safe Mode to see Security tab.
Windows XP Pro, you need to disable Simple File Sharing:
