Windows Update

Hi,
Don't know if this is on topic, but recently I have had a
problem with windows update on the kids computers.

Basically, anything Windows Update says they need fails to
install. All the computers are running Win XP Pro.

I almost thought it could be Blaster, but the on the one
desktop, the patch has been installed, its the laptop that
it hasn't.

I may have screwed it up by either changing the start up
programs or running Spybot , but I am not sure. Is there
a required program in start to install the updates?
