I have Windows XP prof. edition. I use it for Home & have
NO NEED for Network, Log ons, Servers, Users,
Administrators... It's annoying. How can I disactivate,
disable or uninstall thi? All I need is my internet and
email. In the setup manual it said that I could SKIP the
network installation, but i couldn't...
Please HELP!

For security purposes, Windows XP requires that you create
both an Administrator and User account. A network is required
if you wish to access the internet.

HOW TO: Create and Configure User Accounts in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=3Dkb;en-us;279783

Why you should not run your computer as an administrator:

Running Windows XP as an administrator makes the system=20
vulnerable to Trojan horses and other security risks. The simple=20
act of visiting an Internet site can be extremely damaging to the=20
system. An unfamiliar Internet site may have Trojan horse code=20
that can be downloaded to the system and executed. If you are=20
logged on with administrator privileges, a Trojan horse could do=20
things like reformat your hard drive, delete all your files, create a=20
new user account with administrative access, and so on.

You should add yourself to the Users or Power Users group.=20
When you log on as a member of the Users group, you can=20
perform routine tasks, including running programs and visiting=20
Internet sites, without exposing your computer to unnecessary risk.=20
As a member of the Power Users group, you can perform routine=20
tasks and you can also install programs, add printers, and use most=20
Control Panel items. If you need to perform administrative tasks, such=20
as upgrading the operating system or configuring system parameters,=20
then log off and log back on as an administrator.

Does this same vulnerability apply to W2K Pro? I would expect so...
Does an NAT (lookup table) firewall offer any protection? I would expect
not...
