I have instlled Win XP on my home built Athlon computer,
but not activated it yet. I am now using a 10gig 7500rpm
hard drive. If I activate XP on it, can I install a
larger hard drive replacement 6 months from now and be
able to reactivate the software if I do a clean install?
Should I spend the money now on the larger hard drive and
not activate XP with smaller drive?
All suggestions would be appreciated.

Mike,

I've done what you described without problems. As long as you install the
new hdd in the same computer and wipe the install on the old drive once the
new one is in place, you should be fine.

Replacing only a hard drive should not be enough to cause activation to
fail on the install on the second drive. For more information on
activation and Windows XP see http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm.
