View Full Version : URGENT! Taskbar is gone!

PCyr

Basically, if there's no toolbars (language, quick launch) on the taskbar,
the start menu with appear as if it were dragged down to be 0 lines high.
The taskbar area where it shows open files and folders is missing. If a
toolbar is enabled, I can resize the taskbar, but the area that shows open
files and folders is still missing. Please offer any and all advice ASAP.

Thanks

:-( Thanks, but it didn't work. As well, it doesn't seem to have affected
any other user accounts.

No luck, its not so much that the programs don't minimize, its the fact
that, if there is no toolbar (quick launch, language) on the start menu, it
will not allow me to resize it to make it appear. I can see the little grey
line, and it shows the two-way arrow when I put my mouse over it, but it
won't let me actually resize it.

Hmm, I hear what you are saying and that edit usually restores the function,
as that is the same behavior. Your case may be different for some odd
reason.

This one is a bit different, but not much. See if it helps and good luck!

Restore Taskbar to Default Functionality (Line 164)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Note: Do not reboot or logoff. Once the edit is merged, right click the
Notification Area/Task Manager/Processes. Highlight Explorer.exe, End
Process.

Leave the Task Manager open. Once the process has ended, choose File/New
Task and type in: Explorer.exe.

There is an Issue with the Windows XP Taskbar that sees it "lose" the
Program Icons.

Go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm .

You will see a page with 2 Columns and Line Numbers at the Left.

On Line 240 in the Left Column, you will see "Programs Aren't Minimised in
the Taskbar".

Click these words to download (and save to your HDD) "xp_taskbarnomin.vbs".

Locate this script on your HDD, and double-click to execute it.

(If your Security/AntiVirus Software issues a warning, allow the Script to
execute.)

This should fix the problem.

Hope this helps,

Pat Garard

<LOL> You are more than welcome, glad to have helped! :o)

That edit does many things that concerns the Taskbar. Not all users have
the same symptoms, which your case proved exactly.

And thanks for supporting my site and work. :o)

Kelly I've been reading this thread and your website is very helpful,
however, I was bitten by the bug and altho its been removed from my system,
I'm still trying to recover from its effects, all the system commads, ie:
ctrl.alt.del, msconfig, etc, whenever I try to use them they open and
immediatly shut down. I've tried alot of the fixes I'v been reading in this
group and nothing works. I've also tried a few of your web site downloads
and upon execution, I get the message "this will be added toyour reg, do you
want to..blah blah, before I have a chance to click YES the window goes
away. So it seems I have some underlying problem, I can't access any system
commands successfully. Is there a fix for any of this that you know of?
Thank you very much.
