View Full Version : Windoiws Explorer acting funny (XP)

I am using Windows Explorer (XP) to edit scanned pictures in one
subdirectory. I use 'thumbnails' for the view option

I find that when I rename pictures, that the filenames under the
thumbnail pics get all mixed up. That is, the file name is incorrect
for the pic.

Why is this?

Haven't seen that specifically myself, but I do disable thumbnail caching as
a matter of course. Go into folder options and disable thumbnail caching.
You may have to delete any existing thumbnail caches for this to fully take
effect and see if things improve.

'Do Not Cache Thumbnails' was NOT checked.

Thanks anyway.

The more I try to use 'thumbnails' in WExplorer(XP) I am convinced it
flat-out does not work.

Heck, I can display pic-files in a subdirectory using 'details' and
all is just fine - for example file a.jpg indeed is fille a,jpg shown
in my graphics program. But, and I mean but, if I highlight a.jpg and
then switch to 'thumbnails' in the view, then I get a completely
different picture matched with filename a.jpg. Now don't you think
this isn't confusing!

I have no choice but to forget I ever heard about thumbnails. The
terrible thing is, if I decide to delete a file based on the fact the
thumbnail clearly shows a pic that I indeed want to delete, I have
ended up deleting a completely different file!

Great.

The thumbnail caching option is backwards. :-)

Enable the option to "Do not cache thumbnails". Make sure it is checked.
