Cant save any settings on Win XP

I've been trying to install a lexmark z25 on my computer
and every time i get an instalation failure. My printer
spool wont start on start up so i believe thats what is
making it fail. I enable it and the printer installs fine
but as soon as i shut down i lose it all. When i restart
the printer spool (which is set to automatic) wont start
and i have to reinstall the printer.

I am in no way an expert of win xp and would appreciate
any type of input that someone could give me.
