slow installation

hi, i've got windows xp, sp 1, and when i install any software/hardware -
exp. usb stuff it takes forever for it to install! is this a problem with
device manager? to correct the problem i thought that i'd reinstall windows.
does this format my hdd too?

Hi Colin,

Slow installations are usually the result of a combination of any/all of =
the following:

- too many concurrent programs running
- full to overflowing temp folders
- overly aggressive antivirus settings

Turn off some programs and services, dump the contents of the \temp =
folder under both the system folder and your local profile. Then retry =
the installations.
