Can ping a XP Home box from a XP Pro box and vice versa. Can share a folder
from the Home box and map it as a drive from the Pro box to get data from
the Home box to the Pro one. If I try and write to the mapped drive I get
an access denied error message. Anyone know why this is?

Using same account name/password on both? Otherwise could be permissions
for Guest account, or permissions on actual folder. Check in User
Manager and Explorer, and if that doesn't work check your policies.

The Home PC doesn't get logged into, it just goes straight to the desktop.
Can the permissions on the actual folder be messed with under XP Home?

I know why - you don't have permission to write to the network share.

When it goes strraight to the desktop, it means that it gets automatically
logged in as a user. You should which user that is and configure correct
permissions.

I have a similar problem between XP Pro and Win98. Guest is disabled on
WinXP. Does it have to be enabled?

Make sure Guest account is enabled on XP Pro. I had the same problem and
resolved it by enabling the guest account, which I had previously disabled.

Question to other readers: Is there any way to get the XP Pro workstation to
recognize the account logged in on the Win98 machine, rather than simply
allowing logins as 'guest'? I'm guessing not, since there probably would
have to be some kind of domain controller, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
