I installed a printer ( Compaq A1500) to my computer. Installed per Compaqs
instructions using the Disc rather than the Windows New Hardware Wizard. All
went well and is working well except everytime I boot up now I get the
message that Windows has found new hardware Do I want to install it? ( It
is already installed and working).
I've tried a formal introduction (" Windows meet Compaq printer, Printer
let me introduce Windows")
I've invited both to tea; all to no avail. How can I get the computer to
acknowledge that the printer is now part of the family and quit asking me if
I want to set it up ?

PS I think I read here an answer to the same question but can't find it, but
I do know I have the 32 bit version of XP :)

Usually the fix is to just let the new hardware wizard run. Have you tried
that yet?

Yes Michael but The Wizard can't find the drivers on the Compaq installation
disc so it never finishes and I continue to get the message. I'd have no
problem just turning off the New Hardware detection program ( I don't
install that much hardware) but don't know where to find it ( MS Config has
some that look like they might be the program but I don't want to mess with
MSCONFIG if I'm not sure of what I'm doing.

Contact Compaq tech support. They should know how to deal with this.
