I recently made the mistake of signing up for auto
security messages on the official Microsoft site - I now
get bogus 20 mails per day ever since, I assume hackers
harvested my address from the site.

No, I've yet to see an "official" security messages microsoft site. I think
what you inadvertantly did is sign up on the spammer's web page.
