View Full Version : System won't boot from CD

My XP-Home wouldn't start up so I tried booted from the CD. It did and I ran
an install repair that worked. I ran system scandisk to be sure and it never
restarted. Now it won't boot from that same CD. I can get to the BIOS
settings and do get to the Windows Advanced Options Menu but the screen goes
black on anything I select and stays that way.
Good thing I have my Mac or I wouldn't be able to get this out.

Did you remember to hit any key when prompted in order to boot from the CD?

I'm not sure what the "Windows ADvanced Options Menu" is in BIOS as my
BIOS menus don't have such a thing.
Are you sure your BIOS is set to enable booting from the CD? Maybe
check that again.
Sounds like a hardware problem is the root cause (which caused you to do
a reinstall in the first place) that probably is unrelated to XP?
(reinstalls are should be something to do as a last resort after knowing
exactly the purpose of doing it ... although I'll grant you that a lot
of people reinstall to attempt to fix problems, and support help-lines
often suggest it as a way to get the caller off the phone).
