I've been able to rid my computer of the worm blaster
virus. Frustratingly though, I'm unable to download the
microsoft patch. I keep getting an error message
during 'setup'. It indicates that "the integrity of the
file Update.inf" could not be verified. To make "sure the
cryptographic service is running" on my computer. I
followed the steps to enable the cryptographic service
and still was unsuccessful. Please help!

Try the following, open Windows Explorer, click the plus sign next to the
Windows folder, click the plus sign next to the System32 folder, if you see
a catroot2 folder, rename it, catoot2old, reboot your system and try
downloading the patch again. Before going back online be sure your firewall
is turned on. If you don't have a firewall, turn on the XP firewall. You
turn it on by right clicking your Internet connection, if you are on
broadband it would be local area network, in Network connections, select
properties, go to the Advanced tab, and be sure the firewall is enabled.

Here is one fix that is being recommended:
Go to Start
RUN
[type]
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
[enter]

If Michael's advice doesn't resolve your problem, try this command. Click
Start, Run and enter REGSVR32 WINTRUST.DLL

If that doesn't resolve your issue, then using the run dialog, enter each of
the following commands separately.

net start cryptsvc
regsvr32 softpub.dll /s
regsvr32 initpki.dll /s
regsvr32 dssenh.dll /s
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll /s
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 sccbase.dll /s
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll /s

You may wish to use copy and paste to copy the command lines.
