Here is one for y'all:

Following the demand by our school's head tech, I
downloaded the patch from the microsoft website (not from
an email--which is a virus). so here are the resulting
problems:
1) It took about an hour for a 1.9Mb patch to download (I
am running Pentium 4, 512MB, 1.7Ghz with broadband cable
connection)
2) after the download, I lost the use of my "Help and
Support" desk
3)I lost my sound (which was fixable with another
download from Toshiba)
4) My computer now takes 10 minutes to startup
5) I ran my "Restore", but I am only able to restore to
earlier today--not quite far enough back to pre-problem
conditions.

The restore has brought my system back up to speed, but I
still have no access to my help desk.

the only thing that toshiba suggested was a complete
recovery of my C drive--thus technically erasing
everything.

ANY IDEAS???? PLEASE!!!!!
