Due to security reasons sometimes it is necessary to
restrict classes and number of peripherals which could be
connected to the USB receptacles of a PC.
Are there any software or hardware solutions capable to
prohibit connecting of some classes of peripherals (disks,
modems, flash-cards etc.) or to permit using a mouse, a
keyboard and a printer only?

Only administrators can install drivers for the new devices. If you setup
limited accounts then the users won't be able to add any new hardware.
