View Full Version : XP home user accounts

We have two XP Home edition computers here (they're for
the credit union, and they're not domain members.) They
set them up originally to have multiple users on the
welcome screen, but then changed it so the desktop would
come up automatically by deleting all but one user and
having no password. One computer still works correctly,
the other one now sits at the welcome screen with no
users listed. If you hit ctrl-alt-delete twice you can
get the "classic" logon dialog. With the one user's name
and the blank password the computer will log in. When
going to control panel and trying to start "User
Accounts", I get the message "The current user account is
not recognized. Plaese restart the computer and then open
User Accounts." Of course doing that doesn't work. Going
into user profiles, the user's profile does still exist.
How can I get into the User Accounts program? How can I
fix the startup (welcome screen) method? I've searched
the Knowledge Base for hours now.
